Will Davido Scoop This One Too?

After a five year hiatus, the MOBO Awards are back in London by popular demand. Marking its 19th anniversary, the internationally established brand is celebrating nearly two decades of its growing success. This year’s emerging talents will champion the stage at The SSE Arena, Wembley on 22nd October, with the show being broadcast on ITV2.

Afro beats has always seemed to chase after the American expectation of good music, however, recently Afro beat has become what it really should be, the true rightful music of contemporary Africa with many fusing it with hip hop and soul to form break out genres including Afropop and so on. This transformation has been spectacular and done a tonne of good as major artists are hitting the big screen with artists like D- Bang hitting the UK and US with number ones.

Nigerians and Africans in the UK are also embracing the tune with artists like Wizkid, Iyanya and Davido performing at sold out concerts during their UK tours.

This time, our very own are hitting the MOBO Awards again with the likes of Wizkid, Dr Sid, Tiwa savage and Yemi Alade all up for the Best African Act category award.

The full list of the nominated acts are; Afrikan Boy, Davido, DJ Clock, Dr Sid, Fuse ODG. Mafikozolo, Mista Silva, Tiwa Savage, Wiz Kid and Yemi Alade.

The list is looking extremely juicy especially with 6 Nigerian artists (all Afrobeats) in the mix and we can’t even begin to guess who could potentially win this award as all the nominees have had a fantastic year, particularly Davido who scooped the BET awards earlier and then the MTV base awards, with Tiwa and South African duo Mafikizolo coming in close.

If the trend continues, we reckon Davido may take home the award, but you never know with awards. It all comes down to your vote.

The list of artists for ‘MOBO Best African Act’ will be reduced from 10 to 5 nominees on Wednesday 8th October based on voting results. I’ve been here betting and guessing who will eventually win the award. So far with the latest antics of Wizkid throwing $100 bills at his fans, reckon this may help his ratings?

A cursory glance at twitter and Facebook shows fans seem to be leaning on to acts such has Fuse ODG and Wizkid.

Which of the acts do you think will win it on the day?
