Don Jazzy and the Mavins finally put everyone out of their misery when the renowned music producer premiered the much-anticipated Dorobucci video on Wednesday. You could hardly escape the Dorobucci fever that has gripped Nigeria over the past couple of months with ‘Doro’ prefixes added to every word under the sun.
The only downside to hyping anything as any discerning Nigerian will tell you is that people tend to have very high expectations, so when Mavin records dropped the new video, it wasn’t surprising that it got mixed reviews.
Even though we aren’t even sure what ‘Dorobucci‘ means (we doubt even Don Jazzy knows), the song is catchy and has enjoyed extensive airplay in Nigeria.
Going by some of the comments we’ve seen, grudges held against the Mavins range from a perceived lack of creativity in the video to the lack of black models.
Even Nollywood producers joined in the wave of criticism online with Charles Novia taking to his twitter handle to say he didn’t feel the video adding to calls for Nigerian artists to film their music videos locally.
The video isn’t the best ever we’ve seen from the Mavins (what with the computer generated dollar bills, hello?!) but, we still like it and it was quite entertaining.
The stand out act in the video though was Korede Bello with his sultry voice, watch out for that one people.
