“You Can Call Me Bobby”- Says New West Brom striker Brown Ideye
West Bromwich Albion yesterday announced the signing of Nigerian striker Brown Ideye for an undisclosed amount- believed to be around £10 million, the highest ever for the club, as part of the club’s effort to boost the squad.
Ideye previously played for Dynamo Kiev and has 72 goals out of 182 league appearances to his credit. West Brom coach Alan Irvine said he was looking forward to working with the 25-year-old adding that he was a ‘quality player’.
The excited striker took to Twitter last night to break the news to his fans and true to his roots, thanked his family and agents for their support.
In a series of tweets, Ideye, who was clearly excited about the record deal (who wouldn’t be?), told his followers he was excited to be joining the ‘Baggies’ and that the fans could call him ‘Bobby’…(don’t ask). He also received words of support from another famous Nigerian striker Kanu Nwankwo who also played for the club from 2004 to 2006.
Kanu praised the player and also wished the him a successful career at the club. Kanu wrote on his Twitter, “Congratulations ideye. Go and make us proud, I wish you all the best in west bromwich fc.show the league and fans wat you can do.”
Big thanks to everyone who make this possible
