UK Based Charity to Launch ‘Support Our Troops Foundation’ For Nigerian Military

Tuesday 15th September marks the official launch of Support Our Troops Foundation – Nigeria, a not for profit military charity that supports and promote the interests of the men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces who serve home and abroad.

The foundation will work in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Defence to recognise and reward Nigerian Troops and their families with the aim of lifting their spirits and improving their welfare. This will be done through ongoing, practical support and events that reward achievement, value service and recognise sacrifice.

The foundation has four main support programmes:

For Deployed Troops; we provide care packages and kits to the battle front and military bases. We will also build recreational centres on military bases to help create a relaxing environment for our servicemen and women.

For Wounded Troops; we provide healthcare support, as well as give access to education, employment and reintegration schemes post-injury.

For Fallen Troops; we provide emotional support and business grants for spouses. Part of the money raised by Support Our Troops is used to ensure that bereaved spouses receive the help they need to come to terms with the pain of loss. We also provide business grants to enable spouses to build productive careers that can help them provide for their families.

There is also educational support for children in armed forces families. We ensure they are not educationally disadvantaged as a result of loss.

For Retired Troops; we provide entrepreneurship and employment opportunities. Support Our Troops works with employers and educational establishments to bring ex-servicemen and women into the workplace, or provide the resources to help them launch ventures of their own.

We also provide self-development training so service men and women can make a successful transition post-service.

For All Troops; we ensure that our servicemen and women are appreciated and rewarded in a variety of ways: these include, an annual charity ball and award ceremony, discounts and benefits from our corporate partners, donations of clothes, books, vehicles, mobiles phones and more.

The Support Our Troops foundation aims to support all of its programmes through the financial support of donors who are able to contribute in cash or in kind. We also welcome the support of volunteers, scholarships and media partnerships.

The official launch of the Support Our Troops foundation will take place at AHQ Command Officers Mess 1, Asokoro, Abuja. The launch will start at 3pm prompt with a welcome address by Founder and Trustee of the Support Our Troops – Nigeria, Mrs. Funmi Ogbue.

President Goodluck Jonathan and Minister for defence Senator Musiliu Obanikoro are expected to attend the launch.
