Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ Video Branded Racist

Goodbye Country Girl…Hello Popstar!

After weeks of dropping not so subtle hints about her upcoming new single on social media, Taylor Swift finally released new single and accompanying video for ‘Shake it off‘, on Monday via a live stream in conjunction with Yahoo!

Swift chatted to fans, danced and answered questions during the unveiling for the video which has already gotten over 12 million hits on You Tube since its launch.

The song itself while not Swift’s greatest work isn’t as terrible as some critics would have you think with reviews so far suggesting it hasn’t quite hit the mark for some.

More pressing perhaps is the video for the said song which sees Swift attempting almost genre of dance possible including hip hop, ballet and gymnastics.

US rapper Earl Sweatshirt (who you may not know, but is a band member of group Odd Future), has criticised the video for being racist and propagating black stereotypes.

The rapper posted on Twitter, “I don’t need to watch it to tell you that it’s ultimately harmful. Perpetuating black stereotypes to the same demographic of white girls who hide their prejudice by proclaiming their love of the culture.”

Maybe if he’d watched the video, he would realise that Swift took a swipe at pretty much everyone from doing a terrible impersonation of Gaga, to being an awful cheerleader.

We don’t hear any of those parties crying foul.

Why don’t we let you watch the video yourselves and tell us what you think.
