We like the sound of that
Is Idris Elba going to be the first black James Bond? Well, if leaked emails from Sony executives is anything to go by, the answer may be yes.
According to the emails, allegedly from the company’s co- chairman Amy Pascal, Elba is a sound favourite to take over from current 007 actor Daniel Craig. The email sent to a Colombia Pictures executive in January this year is part of a series of highly personal pieces of communication leaked during the hacking of Sony’s database by the hacking group ‘Anonymous.’
The group threatened Sony over the release of comedy ‘The Interview’, which depicts the killing of North Korean leader Kim Jung Un. Sony pulled the movie from scheduled release on Christmas day after threats of a 9/11 style terrorist attack on theatres screening the movie.
Currently, Daniel Craig is still on contract to play the famous spy in the 007 series until the release of the next one ‘Spectre’ in November 2015. Whether or not Elba will bag the coveted role after this is not yet confirmed, although Pascal sounded like she was excited by the idea. The 42-year-old actor from Hackney is certainly not shying away from the role. Asked if he would take up the role if it was offered, he told Reddit magazine earlier this year, ‘Yes. if it was offered to me, absolutely.’
Elba certainly has all the credentials of a true Bond. He’s good-looking, fit and super smart. His acting credentials in ‘Luther’ and ‘The Wire’ also proves that he’s definitely got the mettle to play a dashing super spy like Bond.
If Elba does land the role, he will join previous Bond actors including Pierce Brosnan, Sean Connery and Roger Moore.
