A couple of months ago, the tabloids were full of reports about Eastenders Khali Bests’ suspension from the soap. There were speculations about the reason for the sudden decision by the show’s bosses to exclude him from filming as the actor- notorious for his off camera antics had reportedly received warnings about his behaviour in the past.
On Sunday, the Sun revealed that the actor was suspended because of an altercation with a taxi driver which left bosses furious, leading to his suspension.
Peter Callow, a taxi driver claimed that the actor had flagged his cab down after leaving an awards ceremony in May to take him to his Enfield home. On arrival at the actor’s home, Khali allegedly refused to pay his £61 fare and then hit the cab driver so much, he bled.
‘He hit me in the face,’ said Callow. ‘I was absolutely dazed. I was bleeding. He gave me a black eye and broke my glasses.”
‘He is supposed to be a role model — what he did to me was disgusting.’
Best won the award for best newcomer at the National Television awards for his role of Dexter Hartman, a mechanic on Eastenders.
The fall out from the incident meant that Best was handed a caution by the Police and then suspended from his role on the hit BBC soap.
Insiders say the 26-year-old has been told by bosses in no uncertain terms that his job is hanging by a thread after his behaviour.
