Police Reveal How Robin Williams Died

by Dayo Laniyan

Marin County Sheriff’s Lt Keith Boyd has confirmed that US actor and comedian Robin Williams had killed himself by hanging.

Lt Boyd said that Williams was last seen alive by his wife on Sunday evening, and she left the house the next morning thinking that he was sleeping in another room, but was found dead by noon on Monday by his personal assistant.

Although the post mortem examination on Tuesday morning confirmed the cause of death to be asphyxia by hanging, officials are still waiting on the toxicology results before making a final ruling.

Robin Williams made no secret of his long struggle with alcohol and drugs, even joking about it by saying that cocaine is “God’s way of telling you that you are making too much money.” His representative said on Monday that he had also been “battling severe depression”, and it was reported by the Los Angeles Times that Williams had recently returned to a rehabilitation centre to “fine-tune” his sobriety.

Tributes have flooded in from President Barack Obama and many others, but the most notable coming from his own family. In a statement, Williams’ wife Susan Schneider said that she was “utterly heartbroken” and asked for privacy for the family.

“As he is remembered, it is our hope that the focus will not be on Robin’s death, but on the countless moments of joy and laughter he gave to millions.”

Robin’s daughter, Zelda Williams described her father as “one of the kindest, most generous, gentlest souls I’ve ever known, and while there are few things I know for certain right now, one of them is that not just my world, but the entire world is forever a little darker, less colourful and less full of laughter in his absence”

“We’ll just have to work twice as hard to fill it back up again.”
