One More For The Naija team!
Forgive us for famzing…but with all the negativity Nigerians get in the press, when we hear celebs with an even remotely Nigerian name, yes, we do tend to claim them.
The latest point in case being American actress Uzo Aduba who beat fellow cast members Natasha Lyon and Laverne Cox to take home the Emmy for ‘Outstanding guest actress in a comedy series‘.
Fairly new to the acting scene, Aduba shot to fame after appearing on hit Netflix show Orange Is the New Black (it’s really good), where she plays inmate Suzanne ‘crazy eyes’ Warren.
The 33-year-old broke down after accepting her award from Morgan Freeman on Saturday, telling reporters afterwards that she felt full and her cup runneth, reflecting her Christian upbringing.
“I’m stuffed really. I’m beyond full. My cup runneth over right now,” she told People Magazine.
“I feel absolutely all of those things: I feel full of joy, like a fountain. Mission accomplished.”
In typical Naija fashion, she also said that her mum was dancing around the hotel room, in joyous celebration and gratefulness for a woman who escaped the Biafran war with her children in search of a better life in the US.
Although the main Emmy awards are not due until the 25th, bank holiday Monday, the creative arts awards are usually held before the main awards.
Other recipients at the awards include Glee’s Jane Lynch who won the best host award for her game show Hollywood game night and Jimmy Fallon who won outstanding guest actor in a comedy series.
