The MTV Music Awards (MAMA)’s was held in Durban in South Africa last night. Some of the best in the African music and entertainment scene were present at the event as well as international stars including Trey Songz, French Montana and Marlon Wayans who hosted the event.
Nigerian artists dominated the list of winners with taking the awards for 6 out of the 18 categories. Starting off with singer Tiwa Savage who took home the best female artist award, Music sensation Davido also took home best Male and artist of the year award.
Artists from South Africa including Mafikizolo and Ghana’s Sarkodie also took home awards.
There were awesome performances from the likes of D’banj, Don Jazzy, Trey Songz and Davido to spice things up.
Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong’o won the award for personality of the year although she wasn’t able to receive the award in person while the hotly contested inaugural MTV Base Leadership award went to billionaire entrepreneur Aashish Thakkar of Uganda.
The event also brought in a trail of Hollywood paparazzi as Khloe Kardashian of the KUWTK fame, flew in from the United states to support new beau French Montana who performed on the night.
