An African American girl has been recognised as one of the world’s top 50 most intelligent teenagers in the world. Saheela Ibrahim, who is of Nigerian descent got the honour of introducing the President of the United States and wife Michelle Obama during Black History Month at the White House.
Saheela got into Harvard a few years ago at only 15 years of age, making her one of the prestigous University’s youngest students ever. She speaks 4 languages including Yoruba, Arabic and Latin and is studying Neurobiology.
President Obama praised the young genius who he said was ‘pretty smart’. “There are a lot of teenagers in the world.”
“Saheela is like one of the 50 smartest ones. That’s pretty smart.”
“And she’s a wonderful young lady. She’s like the State Department and the National Institute of Health all rolled into one. And we are so proud of your accomplishments and all that lies ahead of you. And you reflect our history. Young people like you inspire our future.”
On being successful, Saheela says the key is to finding out what you want to do from an early age- like she did when she was only 5 years old.
If you are passionate about what you do, and I am passionate about most of these things, especially with math and science, it will work out well.” Now 19, the teenager insists despite her incredible achievements, she isn’t any different from other kids out there.
“I try my best in everything I do,” Said Saheela. “Anyone who’s motivated can work wonders.”
Apart from her academic work, she plays for her school’s softball team, soccer team as well as swimming for her school, and playing the trombone.
In the list put together by thebestschools.org, Saheela sits at number 21 amongst other amazingly smart and genius teens. Some of their achievements will leave you gob smacked and hopefully inspired. Read on here.
