Miley Cyrus ‘Homeless’ VMA Date Is Wanted By Police in His Native Oregon

Miley Cyrus made headlines on Sunday after the VMA’s for reasons different from the usual when she asked her date for the night, a 22-year-old homeless man to accept her award for best video on her behalf.

Cyrus cried as she sat at the edge of the stage while Jesse Helt gave an emotional speech of acceptance on ‘behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless’ in the US.

The acceptance speech was the singer’s way of raising awareness for a homeless people’s charity, My Friends Place and drawing attention to the situation.

After his VMA appearance which inevitably threw Helt into the media spotlight, an ABC report found that Helt had a police record and a police warrant had apparently been issued for his arrest in Oregon where he grew up.

According to the news network’s website, Helt committed an offence in 2010 for which he was arrested. “Court records obtained by ABC News showed he was arrested for “criminal mischief” and “attempted burglary” in 2010. The burglary charge was changed to “criminal trespass” later that year. The records showed that Helt admitted he tried to enter an apartment by breaking a window amid a “marijuana” dispute,” said the network.

Police in Helt’s native Oregon have issued a statement saying that they were waiting for him to arrive home and that he would be arrested as soon as the Police found him.

Cyrus has slammed the media reports outing her date’s past accusing them of diverting attention from the main issue of homelessness and focusing on Helt’s legal worries.
