2015 is sure shaping up to be the year of the woman of colour. Especially in the media. It’s as though editors and publishers have suddenly woken up to the fact that black women are beautiful and more importantly, they’re a demographic with huge financial might and therefore, their titles must reflect them.
The latest in the growing list of black women to be land a cover spread this year, US First lady Michelle Obama is one of a trio on the cover of US’ Glamour Magazine. She is flanked by Sex and The City Star Sarah Jessica Parker and our favourite conflict handler Kerry Washington.
Mrs Obama isn’t new to being on the cover of magazines and neither are the two actresses flanking her, but you may be wondering why the First Lady is on the cover with these two in particular. We’re told all three are working on a secret project together and apparently, all will be revealed in the May issue scheduled to hit the shelves soon.
Meanwhile, as we gush over the gorgeousness that is Kerry Washington, she told Ebony Magazine about what being on a hit show like Scandal means to her. It would seem no matter what hairstyle she spots, Ms Washington can pull it off. Here she is on the cover of the March issue of Ebony sporting a sharp bob and looking all kinds of fabulous.
“I’ve been really blessed,” said Washington.
“My whole life I have been in acting classes with people who are vastly more talented than I am, so I wish I could say that it was something I did that has made me have the career that I have today.”
“I’ve just been really blessed with opportunities, and by the grace of God I have been able to meet those opportunities when they come along. I’ve been taught to have a really strong work ethic. I come from a family where there’s a big expectation of excellence, so I’ve been able to meet that opportunity, but I can’t take credit for the opportunities.”
Such a humble sweetheart isn’t she? Read the full interview here.
