The X Factor judge has hitherto maintained a dignified silence over the issue of the state of her marriage with movie producer husband Stephen Belafonte. Now, Mel B has officially come out to clear the air regarding her situation with her husband, taking to Instagram to dispel the rumours.
“This is for my fans havin problems with my Twitter will be back soon! I’m very good was very polly but much better now and for the record my hubby never would lay a hand on me sorry took so long but any response fuels rumors #lovemyfamily #lovemyfans,” she wrote, alongside a picture of her and her husband.
She further put the matter to rest on Sunday after posting a photo of the family spending Christmas together and looking happy.
The pair had been seen during the later awards season appearing happy, only for rumours of a split to surface during the finals of the X Factor. Mel was reportedly rushed to the hospital after complaining of severe stomach pains. She remained in hospital according to doctor’s orders, which of course meant she missed the Saturday show, prompting show bosses to draft in Tulisa as a last-minute replacement.
The feisty judge did however return for the Sunday show although looking worse for wear, as she’d barely been out of the hospital before coming on the show. Fans bemoaned Mel’s appearance on the show, with some going as far as suggesting there were marks evident on the singer’s body.
It Wasn’t Me
Her husband then became the subject of public scrutiny with suggestions the couple may have had a serious argument, during which he may have allegedly hit her. Belafonte took to Twitter to furiously deny the allegations and urged fans to stop making up rumours and instead focus on Mel’s recovery. He wrote, “I don’t usually respond to Twitter msgs but I will respond to comments of hitting my wife which I think are quite disgusting un true! (sic).” He then added, “Mel was very ill a bunch of doctors helped her get better if fans can’t just relax B4 being negative they r not real fans of @OfficialMelB.”
The situation wasn’t helped by Mel’s estranged family who also took to Twitter to publicly accuse Belafonte of keeping information about the former Spice Girl’s recovery away from them. Mel’s sister tweeted, “Enough is enough. We need a private family meeting.” Before launching an emotional plea for her sister to get in touch with the family, telling her it wasn’t about the money, but that the family were genuinely concerned for her welfare.
Mel has admitted in the past that like every couple, her and Stephen do argue, but insisted that ‘He gets her.’ During an interview with Grazia, in December, she blamed the couple’s argueing for turning up for the shoot 3 hours late.
Mel told the magazine, ‘I walked in pissed off because I had a big row with my husband about stupid stuff.’
‘Sometimes he pisses me off like no other, but he gets me,” she added.
