There seems to be an all round chocolate love flowing at the moment in the creative industry. Three March covers for high profile titles Essence, Lucky and InStyle magazines all feature women of colour on their covers.
Granted Essence is a magazine for women of colour, but this coming after Jordan Dunn ended a diversity drought on the cover of UK Vogue, this is certainly a welcome development.
On the cover of Essence is everyone’s favourite girlfriend Tracee Ellis Ross, photographed by Dennis Leupold. In the March issue, she talks about her new role in Anthony Anderson’s hit American comedy ‘Black-ish’, which is currently gaining rave reviews from critics.
Oscar winning actress Lupita Nyong’o has temporarily ditched her low cut in favour of a short spurt on the cover of Lucky magazine. She talks beauty, her (not so) new found fame and how she and her brother play games with how many likes her Instagram posts will get..cheeky.
Scandal’s Kerry Washington is this March’s InStyle cover star and unlike the above celebs, hers was received with relative backlash as gladiators went up in arms because they felt the magazine lightened up Washington’s skin tone. A claim that led to InStyle and Washington releasing a statement to cool the temp a little.
We think it’s a great cover and she looks stunning as usual on it.
Here’s a behind the scene video where Kerry talks Scandal and her beauty routine for your viewing pleasure. You’re welcome.
