A more heel friendly venue at last!
Fashion writers and editors will be pumping their fists up for joy after it was announced this morning that London Fashion Week will be moving to the Brewer Street Car Park from the next fashion season.
Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council caroline Rush told Dazed & Confused Magazine that the move has been on the cards for a while, and that it was now time to move on from Somerset House.
“We’ve known that we would have to move from Somerset House at some point,” BFC chief executive Caroline Rush told us. “You have to change things. Having a central location that’s more connected to retail in one of London’s iconic creative hubs is kind of a dream come true.”
“[Soho] has always been known as a creative hub, for many decades you’ve seen trends come out of here. You’ve still got the great fabric suppliers, which is the mecca for all the [fashion] students to go to… They start discovering and delevoping this relationship with Soho so being able to bring this international event here is great to put a spotlight on Soho – and it’s going through such a period of transformation.”
Though still a functioning car park, Brewer Street has played host to fashion shows in the past, so this will not be an entirely new phenomenon. Given Soho’s creative, boho feel, we think this is a great move indeed.
2016, Soho, here we come!
