As part of the centenary celebrations to mark 100 years since Nigeria’s amalgamation, Nigerians in the UK will be hosting a centenary ball in the London Borough of Waltham Forest.
On a Courtesy visit to the council, delegates of the event’s planning committee including boss of Nigerian Watch, Ayo Akinfe, secretary Jumoke Ariyo, publisher Femi Okutubo and event planner Vanessa Oluwole met with the leader of Waltham Forest, Councillor Chris Robbins.
Councillor Robbins expressed his affinity towards the Nigerian community in the borough adding that he had always enjoyed a great relationship with Nigerians, especially as the former Mayor of Waltham Forest, Councillor Anna Mbachu is a Nigerian.
To show how committed the Borough was to the success of the event, Councillor Robbins purchased 30 tickets which he planned to give to members of the Nigerian community who live in the Borough and are over 65.
Some of the guests expected to grace the occasion scheduled to take place on the 27th of June include, the Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK; Dr Dalhatu Tafida, Singer Yinka Davies, and Professor Wole Soyinka.
