The way in which Lisa Folawiyo manages to mix and match opposing bright patterns with an updated touch made her one to watch this week. Even Vogue agrees! They listed her eponymous collection as one of the ‘7 things they love about fashion week’.
The Nigerian born designer not only designed and made her collection in Lagos, Nigeria but she also drew inspiration from the country’s traditional Ankara printed fabrics. This mix of the old with the new was prevalent – the material was used in modern forms to create both dresses and co-ords.
We adore the fun versatility of her clothes – from the pleats to the cut out detailing to clashing fringing and hemlines; each piece is a statement in their own right. Despite the clashes and mismatched patterning, it all works and it helps to create graphically detailed looks that ooze femininity and distinctness
With her unique looks and distinct African fashion, Lisa Folawiyo helps to put Nigeria in the forefront New York fashion week. The collection was everything we expected it to be and then more. We loved her debut Spring/Summer 2015 collection, did you? Which pieces are your favourite?
