Inspired by her husband’s recent battle with a near fatal heart disorder, Wife of legendary Nigerian striker Amara Kanu is launching a book on healthy living.
In 2014, 8 years after he first had urgent surgery to replace an aortic valve, Amara and Nwankwo were lying in bed together when she noticed that something didn’t sound right about his heartbeat. The rhythm was “irregular and odd”. She encouraged him to get his heartbeat checked – an intuition that proved her fears to be true. He was a “walking time-bomb” and she quite literally had saved his life. In no time, he was sent to Ohio to have life-saving open-heart surgery
Now Amara, who married Kanu when she was 18, has channelled all the diet and fitness knowledge she has learned over the years into a new book called Healthy Living with Amara Kanu, stressing, “Listening to your body could save your life”.
The new book will be launched at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium on Friday 14th July, where proud hubby Kanu, will be in attendance to support his wife of 14 years.
Following the recent death of Ivorian footballer Cheick Tiote on the pitch, and Fabrice Muamba’s cardiac arrest in March 2012, Amara has dedicated her book to her husband and the other sporting greats who have lost their lives and suffered from heart problems.
The fit mum of three told fans on her Instagram page (where she shares her fitness and lifestyle tips) that she hopes the launch event will be one of the most fun book launches by a healthy living author.
The book has already received some raving reviews from Nigerian celebs including veteran Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw, who said the book isn’t just about exercise; “it takes you through the steps to a total fitness and general well-being” and “the mental preparation involved to start the journey to a more fit you.”
