If you’re going to engage in some steamy PDA, what better location than right next to one of Chris Ofili’s most iconic paintings? Hollywood couple John Legend and wife Chrissy Teigen brought a bit of glamour to the British Turner prize winner’s ‘Night and Day‘ exhibition at New York’s New Museum of Art.
In the February issue of GQ, Legend and his model wife are photographed across the city as one of its most relevant occupants- The singer has lived in the same part of the city for 15 years. The magazine goes as far as conferring them an honorary mayoral title because of their ‘authentic’ New Yorker lifestyle.
The dashing couple are photographed doing some of the things they love doing best- like shopping in down town New York, eating in small and local cafés and wandering around art galleries. Apparently, unlike most famous Hollywood couples, these love birds live like us mere mortals, which is quite hard to imagine given they’d hardly be able to walk two blocks without being recognised by adoring fans.
The feature details how the couple arranged for food to be sent out to protesters during the height of the Eric Garner protests which saw thousands pour out unto the streets of New York in solidarity to demand reforms to the US justice system after the deaths of two black men at the hands of white policemen went unpunished.
“Originally we were thinking about buying out a restaurant, but we realized we should bring the food to them.” said Teigen, who booked the vehicles used to ship the food herself as they weren’t sure who would be on board with their plan, given the volatile situation at the time. “You’re making that phone call in the morning, hoping they agree to it, because obviously it’s kind of a hot-button topic—you don’t know who’s going to want to be involved,” she says. “But everybody was so down. And so for the cause.”
Could they win our hearts any more? It’s fair to say the Legends are one of our favourite Hollywood couples. Each of them hugely successful in their individual careers, and even in their hobbies (Teigen, known for her food porn Instagram posts will be launching her first cookery book this year) and her Grammy award-winning husband is up for his first potential Oscar for the popular soundtrack to MLK film Selma, which he co wrote with Common.
They can PDA all over the whole of New York (and in their next music video) for all we care. They’ve earned it.
