- Video Purportedly Shows Same Masked Man With British Accent Killing Another American Journalist
- A Mother’s Plea Ignored
A new video allegedly showing the killing of hostage Steven Sotloff at the hands of the same man who killed fellow American journalist has surfaced on the internet.
According to the Guardian, the gruesome video was very similar to the first one which showed the beheading of another journalist 2 weeks ago as ISIS steps up pressure on the Obama administration to stop interfering in the affairs of the group In Iraq as it seeks to establish an Islamic Caliphate in the region.
Sotloff was said to have been in the same orange jumpsuit as Foley and was also made to read a letter blaming the US government for his death before a masked man, supposedly the same one as the previous video murders him against the same desert backdrop.
In the video, the masked man is reported to have stated, “I’m back, Obama, and I’m back because of your arrogant foreign policy toward the Islamic State.”
This time, the group ended the video with a clip of a British hostage who they claim will be next if President Obama does not end air strikes in Iraqi territories held by the group.
Only last week, Sotloff’s mother made a direct plea for her son’s freedom on the New York Times website. In a video addressed directly to the group’s leader, Shirley Sotloff pleaded “I am sending this message to you, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi al-Quraishi al-Hussaini, the caliph of the Islamic State. I am Shirley Sotloff. My son Steven is in your hands.”
“You, the caliph, can grant amnesty. I ask you please to release my child. I ask you to use your authority to spare his life.”
David Cameron who was briefed on the situation as he finished a meeting in Westminster called the video a ‘disgusting and despicable act’, while the Obama administration has asked for patience while they put together a strategy to deal with the ISIS threat.
Meanwhile, intelligence agencies are still working to verify the authenticity of the video.
