NIGERIA– The Speaker of the House representatives, Honourable Aminu Tambuwal was humiliated by soldiers in Kaduna at the Hotel Seventeen where the international conference on Security and development challenges of Pastoralism in West and Central Africa is to take place . The security officials by insisted that his official vehicle must be searched before he was allowed into the conference venue.
Tambuwal had no choice than to walk into the conference hall between tight security by aides leaving his official vehicle behind.
The speaker’s media aide, Imam Dalhatu Imam, described the incident as unusual for security to search the staff car of the speaker.
He said the act of the security undermined the legislature and the institution as a whole.
He stated that the constitution provides the integrity of the legislature and the executive to be protected at all times, urging the security operatives to be mindful that the institution must also be protected at all times.
He said if the number four citizen of the country can be subjected to ridicule by being searched with anti-bomb detector, only God knows what will happen to an ordinary citizen.
Even though, Tambuwal arrived the venue at 9:16am in his official vehicle with the seal of his office and flag, the soldiers still insisted that he must be searched ignoring the protest by his security aides.
An eyewitness said Tambuwal angrily got down of his car and walked to the conference hall, leaving the behind his official car and his flag and the seal of office in order to avoid the ugly scene.
Also, a security official who witnessed the scene said he has not seen such embarrassing situation ever since he has been in the security service.
