From Stonebridge Park estate to Cambridge, George The Poet is part of the new crop of Black Brits challenging stereotypes
For the first time since its inception in 2009, the BRITs Critics’ Choice Awards has no female nominee shortlisted for the award. The all male nominee list include North Londoner and spoken word artist George The Poet, James Bay and London three piece band Years and Years.
James Bay has enjoyed quite the phenomenal year since opening for the Rolling Stones in 2013. His fame factor shot up a few further notches this year after he performed at the most talked about fashion show during London Fashion Week- The Burberry Show.
George The Poet on his part says he felt ‘privileged’ to have been nominated, adding that it’s a step in the right direction for him. “I always dreamed of reaching people and this nomination shows me that I’m on track,” hew said.
The winner will be announced on the 4th of December. The Critics’ Choice Awards is a highly coveted prize with a formidable panel consisting of some of the music industries biggest experts. Previous winners include Adele, Florence and The Machine and Sam Smith, all of whom have gone on to enjoy huge success both in the UK and worldwide.
