As a shocking but pleasant surprise to fans of the Nineties sitcom Friends, all of the three female leads came together for a five-minute reunion sketch on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show.
Host Kimmel had admitted that he had been a fan of the show since he was a child, and that for the 10 years since the show had been taken off the air he had been writing his own ‘fan fiction’ featuring with Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel and wished to act it out with her.
On an exact replica of the iconic Friends kitchen,on which Kimmel proudly joked, “I spent $80,000 making it. To the tee, every detail is correct,” Kimmel and Aniston were joined by Lisa Kudrow, who was Phoebe, and Courteney Cox who played as Monica.
Kimmel himself played as Ross, who was trying to ward off the advances of the women in his own storyline. Unfortunately David Schwimmer who played Ross, Matthew Perry (Chandler) or Matt LeBlanc (Joey) was present for the reunion. Kimmel made up for it by saying that it this episode, both characters had been killed off by Ross’ pet monkey Marcel.
This skit happened just before the 20th anniversary of Friends’ premiere next month, with other celebrations including a replica of Central Perk coffee shop in Manhattan opening next months, which will feature an appearance from James Michael Tyler who was the barista Gunther.
Unfortunately, any possibility of a full Friends reunion has been dismissed repeatedly by the cast as “impossible” because of other commitments.
