Fifty Shades of Grey Movie will not be as racy as you may be expecting…

Sorry to disappoint Fifty Shades fans, but the infamous tampon scene in E. L James’ rompy book, ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ will not be brought to life in the film.

For a book that made its name based on its very sexual content as well as the romance, fans of the book will be disappointed to know that majority of the racy scenes in the book have been very much toned down in the film in order to give it an R rating rather than the more restrictive NC-17 rating.

In an interview with Variety, Director Michael De Luca admitted that interpreting some of the more racy scenes in the book would have been challenging, (who can forget the red room of pain?). He told the magazine that in fact, the issue of including the gross scene which involved billionaire playboy Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), doe eyed loved interest Anna (Dakota Johnson), and a tampon (use your imagination), was never even discussed.

“The book needed to put you in Ana’s shoes to be a successful experience,” said De Luca. “A lot of it was very literal. The movie didn’t need to do that. It’s a completely different medium.”

The initial script for the movie had to be revised a number of times to whittle down which sexual scenes would make the cut and which ones wouldn’t. Fans will however, be happy to know that the final scene in the book, a very intense encounter between the two main characters, where Ana urges Mr Grey to show her ‘how bad it could get’ is definitely in the film.

The book’s author E. L James also apparently approves of the fewer sex scenes in the movie. “‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ is first and foremost a romantic love story, and the sex is only part of that,” she told the magazine. “People who haven’t read the books might be surprised that there isn’t more sex on the screen, but that’s because they’ve gone by media reports of ‘Fifty Shades,’ which have tended to err on the side of the sensational. I’m pretty sure the millions of fans who have the read the trilogy will think there is enough sex.”

Fifty Shades of Grey premieres on the 13th of January, perfect timing for Valentine’s Day.
