More positive response than Band Aid
A star studded video pressurising governments and world leaders to do more to fight the spread of Ebola has been released by ONE.org, an organisation dedicated to the positive implementation of development policies around the world.
The moving video titled ‘Waiting’, features a mix of Hollywood and West African stars, all staying silent throughout the video in order to signify what happens when we do nothing in the face of a crisis. Stars including Femi Kuti, Ice Prince Zamani and Angelique Kidjo were joined by Morgan Freeman, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Ellie Goulding to put pressure on govenrments to act faster in response to the Ebola scourge which has killed over 4, 000 people in West Africa.
So far, the video has received a more positive response than Bob Geldof’s Band Aid 30 single ‘Do They Know Its Christmas’, which has been widely criticised as promoting a certain stereotype of Africa as a continent in need, rather than a growing continent.
