In case you didn’t know, the Juno awards are the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy’s.
The award ceremony which hitherto had little, if any significance to it’s winners beyond the Canadian bothers has steadily gathered recognition in the last few years with the rise of Canadian music with acts such as Drake, Arcade Fire, Justine Bieber and Michael Bublé doing well internationally.
This years ceremony which took place over the weekend saw Justin Bieber presented with the Juno Fans choice award for the fourth year running.
The award was met with resounding boos from the audience, but fortunately, the star was not present to witness the crowd’s disapproval of him.
The raucous was so bad, that the next award recipient had to defend the troubled star after collecting her award.
Serena Ryder (who won songwriter of the year) scolded the crowd saying, “I really think Justin Bieber is an amazing musician and that he deserves every bit of that award. He’s been working his ass off his entire life and we need to support how awesome he is.”
Other award recipients were apparently so shocked by the audience reaction to Bieber that they reportedly told them off, saying that the response ‘was not very Canadian.’
It would appear the 19 year old’s antics hasn’t washed down well at home either, as his fans globally have expressed their dismay at his conduct in the last few months.
In a clip on E! earlier in the year, the channel asked viewers what they felt about Bieber’s arrest in Miami after speeding in a flashy car allegedly with an expired drivers license.
Bieber was also rapped for allegedly being rude to Police during arrest with the authorities even going as far as releasing footage from his search at the Police station to the media.
If the reaction of fans from that clip is anything to go by, then the teenager needs to get his act together and in the words of one fan….’grow up’!
