Americans love the Royals. And it couldn’t be more evident from the elaborate reception the couple have received since arriving in the US of A on Sunday.
William and Kate have ignited Royal baby excitement since their arrival in New York for their very brief city tour. Their whirlwind trip has seen them visit the 9/11 museum where they paid respects to hundreds of victims who lost their lives in the tragedy. William also made a quick trip down to Washington (via a commercial airline) to visit President Barrack Obama. Passengers on the airline were excited to see their unexpected co passenger as he made his way into the cabin, even looking for his seat number himself…bless.
While Prince William was away, Kate visited Harlem where she was hosted by the wife of the city’s Mayor Chirlane McCray. She visited a centre for children with developmental disabilities at the at the Northside Center for Child Development.
In addition to political royalty, the Royals also met sports and pop royalty as they attended the cavaliers vs The New York Nets basketball game. There they met Beyoncé and Jay Z courtside. Beyonce and Kate reportedly chatted for a bit, while Prince William and Jay Z discussed the games. The highlight of their visit though was star player LeBron James’ excitement as he posed for photos with the Royal couple.
James put his arm around the Duchess- breaking Royal protocol as she and Prince William posed alongside him for photos. The player presented the couple with a customised jersey for 16 month old Prince George with the inscription ‘George 1’.
The basketballer won’t be the first American to get touchy feely with the Royals. First Lady Michelle Obama also broke Protocol during a visit to Buckingham Palace after she put her arm round the Queen’s back as she posed for photos. Her Majesty didn’t seem to mind though, she actually kind of reciprocated the gesture.
