New York based fashion label DKNY has joined other western designers in the hot pursuit of conquering the middle east with the recent launch of its Ramadan Collection.
In celebration of the holy month of Ramadan which is widely practiced by Muslims the world over, the designer label have created pieces that would appeal to muslim women who want to cover up but still stay stylish.
If you’re wondering how the label could possibly manage to pull this off, you’ll be pleased to know that with the help of ; Yalda Golsharifi and Tamara al Gabbani, two super stylish middle eastern fashionistas who are also fronting the campaign.
This is the latest in the push by big fashion labels to break into the conservative but wealthy middle eastern market after designers such as Karl Lagerfield announced collections at a fashion show in Dubai which all adhered strictly to Sharia tenets.
The debut collections come after DKNY launched a dedicated website specifically catering to the middle east and the opening of a string of stores in the area.
The collection though modest is still quite apealling even to women who aren’t Muslim with jumpsuits and even leather jackets in the mix.
According to fashion website- Fashion trends Daily, the collection is only one of a handful of what is called the ‘Ramadan Rush’, which is the period shortly before the holy month when upwardly mobile middle eastern women jet to places like the UK in the pursuit of the latest fashion trends to wear in Ramadan.
