Bet you can tell that we’re excited. You would be too, after you’ve seen the latest edition of pioneering black digital magazine ‘Blanck’.
This Edition (the Freedom Edition), features Nollywood Actor Alex Ekubo, Singer Lola Rae, Writer and BBC presenter Amal Fashanu and Film producer Gbenga Akinnagbe amongst other amazing up and coming African/Nigerians in the creative industry.
From the moment you delve into the first page, you instantly get what the magazine is about; telling the African story the way only Africans can…..in this, the magazine has outdone itself.
With photos taken by ‘Asiko’ a Nigerian photographer based in London and Lagos, hair and make up by some of the industries renowned beauty professionals including Rasheeda Brown and Dele Alakija, Editor Franka Chiedu has got herself a formidable team. Little wonder the magazine is so effortlessly vibrant and captivating.
In her Editor’s note, Chiedu who is the brain behind the magazine is apologetically candid, drawing the reader into the inner workings of her intuitive mind.
“The day you start living is the day you realise that you are your own prisoner and freedom in the actual sense of the word is only but a state of mind,” she writes.
“This realisation though still in progress prompted me to start Blanck. An empty page that would allow me and a bunch of creative genies to express ourselves without the fear of judgement.”
We really can’t wait to see what this bunch of creatives will come up with next. Clearly, they’re in a league of their own, setting the pace for other black publications to follow.
