Factory 78’s Adesope Olajide caught up with Kokomaster D’banj during his recent promo tour for his new album ‘Bangalee‘.
During the 20 minute interview, the Oliver singer talks about his role as an ambassador of youth agriculture, a role which saw him attending the AU summit held in Addis Ababa earlier this year.
He also dispels rumours that he’s abandoned his rumoured girlfriend, Nigerian actress Genevieve Nnaji for Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kenya Moore. The singer stated that he and Moore were just friends but he became suspiciously tight-lipped when asked about his relationship with his ‘chic’ Genevieve.
He also added that he didn’t know where the rumours came from and was only following the advice by his publicist to keep ‘mum’ when asked about his affairs with the opposite sex.
D’ Banj, who burst into the Nigerian music scene in 2004 with his ‘koko’ hit will be celebrating 10 years in the music industry this year with a round the world tour.
“There are so many of my fans around the world whom I’ve never met”, he tells Factory 78. “Oliver twist” was number 1 in so many countries like Cyprus and I’ve never been to these countries, so this tour would be a great opportunity to meet my fans in these countries”.
On how he came about the name ‘Bangalee’ for his album. The 33-year-old said he drew inspiration from the loyalty and resilience of the Chinese and Russians, drawing parallels with his own life. He talked at length about his tremendous career, starting out with Don Jazzy and launching his own media company. “You win some, you lose some and I just thank God for the hits I’ve been able to make” he said, about his journey to stardom.
The Kokomaster also talked about his new single ‘Bother You‘, which is on the soundtrack of the upcoming movie ‘Half of a Yellow Sun.
