The fashion world has lost a true legend
Since news broke today that one the most iconic figures in fashion this century Oscar De La Renta has passed away, tributes have been pouring in from past clients, some of which include a few of America’s first ladies, not to mention Hollywood royalty.
Born into a well to do family in the Dominican republic, he studied art in Spain, but his passion for fashion drew him into the studios of Spanish designer Balenciaga, where he learnt the trade of couture. He made his name in the 60’s after US first lady Jacqueline kennedy wore one of his designs.
The designer died on Monday at the age 82 from complications due to cancer.
Celebrities from Naomi Campbell to Nicki Hilton have been paying tributes to the iconic designer on line. Known for his elaborate, designs and flattering silhouettes, the fashion world will miss this legendary designer who symbolised high fashion at its finest.
What a sad day for the fashion industry. An icon is gone. RIP Oscar de la Renta ❤️
