Celebrating Nigeria’s new yam festival, London Style!

The Nigerian Igbo community in London came together for a beautiful show of culture at the Iri Ji (New yam Festival) at the Petchey Academy in Hackney. The event which was organised by the Igbo Cultural and Support Network (ICSN), also marked the 15th anniversary of the organisation.

The new yam festival is an important annual harvest festival celebrated by the Igbo community in Nigeria and beyond. It takes place in August and symbolises the end of the harvesting season and the start of a new work cycle.

Notable Nigerians that attended the event include Eze Okosisi Edwin Ezeanyika XI of Uruala,   Mr Edward Wood (Director of Public Information House of Commons), Mayor Cllr Kate Anolue ( Mayor of Enfield ), Obi Emelonye and Actor John Okafor.
