British ‘Sherlock’ Wins Big At 2014 Emmy’s

The Emmy’s are primarily a celebration of the best on US TV, but across the pond, Hollywood showed love to their British counterparts with nominations for British programmes such as Sherlock and The Voice and British actors including Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman getting nominations .

Sherlock did in fact end up the big surprise win for the night as the actors didn’t bother to show up, probably because they weren’t expecting to win. The hit BBC drama series winning three awards for best writing in a mini series (Steven Moffat), best supporting actor in a mini series (Martin Freeman) and lead actor in a mini series (Benedict Cumberbatch).

The night’s biggest wins went to American drama ‘Breaking Bad’ which scooped 5 awards in total including best drama series, best supporting actor and best supporting actress while Fargo and the big bang theory also won awards on the night.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was a moving tribute by Billy Crystal to actor and comedian Robin Williams who past away last week after committing suicide.
