X Factor winner Ben Haenow has beat off stiff competition from Mark Ronson to take this year’s Christmas number 1 with his single, ‘Something I Need’.
The former van driver’s single sold 214, 000 ahead of Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ ‘Uptown Funk’, which slipped down to number 2 in the charts this week.
Haenow told the BBC, “It’s an incredible end to my year. I’m absolutely shocked, I can’t believe it.” Before adding that he would be celebrating by having, “a few good drinks with my mates – definitely more than a few good drinks – to celebrate.”
In the album charts, Ed Sheeran’s ‘X’ continues to dominate with sales of over 214, 000 in a week. Sam Smith’s ‘In The Lonely Hour’ and Olly Murs’ ‘Never Been Better’ were second and third most streamed albums in the run up to Christmas.
It’s become a tradition for the X Factor winning single to go on to win the Christmas Number 1. Haenow joins the likes of Alexandra Burke, Leona Lewis and Sam Bailey whose albums all made it to number 1.
