Australia saw another national tragedy, as Cairns experienced fatal stabbings of 8 children in Manoora, north Queensland. The mother of the children is being treated for stab wounds to the chest. Detectives confirm the 37 year old woman is cooperating with enquiries, and she has now been arrested on suspicion murder.
The ages of the children ranged from 18 months to 15 years old and they belonged to the same family. An older sibling who discovered the bodies, raised the flag raised the flag at 11:20 local time. Child protection team, forensic experts and detectives are working at the crime scene, which has been locked down. This investigation will continue through out Friday night.
This is the second tragedy the nation has seen, after the Sydney siege, which left 3 dead. The Prime Minister, Tony Abbott said these were “trying days for our country” adding on his sentiments regarding the stabbings; “tonight, there will be tears and prayers across our country for these children. My thoughts are with the Queensland police and all who have to respond to this terrible situation.”
Detailed method of the deaths is yet to be confirmed but the information regarding stabbings stands correct. The investigation continues as further evidence unfolds over the weekend.
