The Africa Magic Viewers choice awards (AMVCA) are what you would call the equivalent of Africa’s Oscars.
Nollywood’s finest, gathered at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos on saturday night to honour and celebrate outstanding talent and achievement in the African film industry. As we’ve come to expect, Nigerian celebrities at the event brought glamour and style to the red carpet as Africa honoured some of the best artists in the show business industry.
The event was hosted by presenter of choice, IK Osakieduwa and Osas Ighodaro with rousing performances from Cobhams Asuquo, Waje, Bez and Flavour.
The night’s biggest winner was Shirley Frimpong, who won Best Video Editor and best Movie Awards. Mercy Aigbe who looked absolutely stunning in white also won the award for best Indigenous language yoruba.
Jenefa star, Funke Akindele also looked gorgeous on the night while taking home the best Actress in Comedy Award. Osita Iheme of the Aki & paw paw fame won the best actor in comedy award while Desmond Elliot won best Supporting actor.
Rita Dominic won the New Era award for her movie The Meeting, while veteran actor Pete Edochie who couldn’t make it to the ceremony in person, won the Industry Merit award.
Nse Ikpe Etim won the best actress in a drama award for her role in Journey to Self.
Check out some of the celebrity styles at the event. Our favourite look would have to be Eku Edewor and Joselyn Dumas. They absolutely nailed it!
