She was the ‘other’ woman whose affair with her boss nearly brought an entire administration to an end.
Monica Lewinsky’s affair with President Bill Clinton is arguably one of the most publicised and humiliating high-profile affairs in modern history.
The former White House intern has made efforts to keep herself out of media scrutiny for the past ten years. Now, out of the blue, she’s granted an exclusive interview to Vanity fair in their May issue.
Lewinsky, now 40, tells the magazine that she regrets the affair which happened in 1998.
“I, myself, deeply regret what happened between me and President Clinton. Let me say it again: I. Myself. Deeply. Regret. What. Happened,” she said.
What has finally prompted her to come forward with her story? The desire to help others who are currently being bullied by internet trolls to overcome their fears and face up to their bullies.
In the interview, Lewisnky says she’s had enough of living like a hermit as a result of her past and wants her life to have a legacy beyond just being the ‘other woman’ who had an affair with Bill Clinton.
She bravely admits that she’s ready to face whatever comes her way as a result of speaking out after all these years.
She says, “Tiptoeing around my past—and other people’s futures. I am determined to have a different ending to my story. I’ve decided, finally, to stick my head above the parapet so that I can take back my narrative and give a purpose to my past. (What this will cost me, I will soon find out.)”
After living in various cities including London, New York and Los Angeles over the years, Lewinsky admits that moving on has been tough as the scandal still sticks, even while attempting to get a job.
“I was never ‘quite right’ for the position,’ she says.
“In some cases, I was right for all the wrong reasons, as in ‘Of course, your job would require you to attend our events.’ And, of course, these would be events at which press would be in attendance.”
She also admits that the relationship between her and President Bill Clinton WAS consensual but also accused him of taking advantage of her.
The interview will be of great interest to opponents of Hilary Clinton who is the front-runner to be the Democrat Presidential candidate.
US politicians play dirty and this will be play right into their hands.
